Loki

So, I have really been enjoying Marvel’s new Loki: Agent of Asgard book, by Al Ewing, it’s awesome. But it does build on some past events, which I never did read. I decided to remedy that, and read Kieron Gillen’s Journey Into Mystery and Young Avengers to get the whole Loki redemption story. Last night, i finished Journey Into Mystery. I think it got off to a somewhat shaky start, since it was launched in the middle of Fear Itself, I HATE when books are launched in the middle of events, since you are not getting the full story unless you read the event, too. And the writing came off as cold and distant at first, probably in part because of that, since it had to spend a lot of time recapping events of Fear Itself. But it warmed up after the initial arc, and was a great read. But… holy shit, it is the SADDEST THING EVER. Well, not the whole thing… it was pretty funny and cute before the final issue, with some downright heartwarming bits, then WHAM! Tragedy hits you like a semi truck in the final issue. But in a good way. The ridiculous thing is, I knew it would happen (cus Loki’s solo book spoiled it) and it STILL had me in tears.

Well. time for Young Avengers, for the rest of Kid Loki’s adventures, which I have totally been meaning to read for a while now. But…. now i’m kinda mad at him.

archiemcphee: Holy psychedelic rocks, Batman! These awesome...

archiemcphee:

Holy psychedelic rocks, Batman! These awesome stones aren’t stone at all. They’re made of a substance called Fordite, also known as Detroit or Motor Agate. All of those beautiful layers are old automobile paint, countless layers of it, that accumulated in car factories over the years back when they cars were spray-painted by hand and excess paint dripped onto the metal tracks and skids that transported cars through the paint shop during the painting process. Thanks to the high heat that was used to bake the paint onto the cars, the layers hardened enough to be cut and polished into these beautiful industrial gems.

"Not much is known about how the pieces left the old factories, but it is assumed that ‘some crafty workers with an eye for beauty realized that this unique byproduct was worth salvaging. It was super-cured, patterned-like psychedelic agate, and could be cut and polished with relative ease!’"

Today this captivating material is shaped and polished into rings, necklaces, earrings, and of course beautiful stones like you see here. Because the painting process that created this substance no longer exists, Fordite is considered to be increasingly rare. But there’s still enough around to get some for yourself if you like. Check out the Fordite website to learn more.

Russia says it may abandon Space Station by 2020 over Ukraine conflict

Russia says it may abandon Space Station by 2020 over Ukraine conflict:

ruckawriter:

On Tuesday, Russia’s deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin announced that the country would not cooperate with the US on the International Space Station (ISS) after 2020 despite the fact that the US was hoping to use the ISS until 2024. Rogozin also said that Russia would no longer sell its NK-33 and RD-180 rocket engines to the US for military purposes. RD-180 rocket engines are used in the United States’ Atlas V launch vehicle for a variety of cargoes including US military payloads.

Finally, Rogozin said that the US will have to cease operations of its 11 GPS sites within the country on June 1 unless the two nations can come to an agreement before then. After the June 1 deadline, Moscow says it will permit three months of negotiations, but if there’s no agreement, the 11 stations “will be permanently terminated,” the Russian government-funded site RT wrote.

staticdreads:

nooooo not stormwatch

Yeah :-/ BUT, look on the bright side - they died 5 years in the future, (which probably means this series will have a LOT of deaths, Stormwatch/Hawkman and Green Arrow were just the first) that means they are kinda granted protection, 5 years with no deaths, guaranteed, except Projectionist who does not appear her, but pffft, who gives a fuck about her? Also Jenny, which could be good or bad. If she’s not here, it could mean she is dead already, OR it could mean one of the most powerful reality warpers in the DCU could bring her team/family back in some kind of twist once she finds out that happened. Though it will likely be Frankenstein that finds them first. (and steals Hawkman’s arm) I mean, I just don’t see the point of using them for a single scene and then killing them, I think a twist of SOME kind is coming.

Overall, I liked the book though.
